The Republican Party have made a firm commitment to do everything they can to help caterpillars.
Today the party announced that they will take steps towards improving the wellbeing of wild caterpillars in the United States. This support will first be demonstrated by the party backing bill S.907239 when it goes before the Senate later this month. If passed, the bill will make damaging the natural habitat of caterpillars a Federal crime, unless an exemption has been obtained from the relevant authorities.
This announcement follows a similar statement released last week by the Democrats, who also pledged to do everything they can to assist native species of American caterpillars.
The plight of the North American Red Crested Caterpillar has been major news recently. Fewer than 100,000 of the native caterpillars exist in the wild, and it’s predicted that by the end of the decade they will be completely extinct unlessĀ drastic action is taken. Red Crested Rudy – a caterpillar with a smiley face stuck on its head – has become a popular guest on several chat shows, helping to further raise awareness.
In other news, a proposed bill outlawing the hunting of butterflies will not be voted on next month as it lacks support from all parties.
